Puregold aims to open 75 Lawson stores this year

LOCAL RETAILER Puregold Price Club, Inc. earmarked P450 million to put up 75 convenience stores this year under its partnership with Japan’s Lawson, Inc., and targets to have 500 stores by 2020 despite intensifying local competition.

The joint venture is focusing on expanding Lawson’s presence in central business districts to target employees from business process outsourcing companies. Last year, 16 Lawson stores located near schools in Metro Manila were opened.

“We look to break even by 2018, when we reach 300 stores,” Puregold Investor Relations Officer John T. Hao told reporters after the opening of the flagship Lawson store at Tower 6789 in Makati City on Tuesday.
