Consunjis team up with Meralco to expand Calaca plant in Batangas

The Consunji family’s Semirara Mining and Power Corp. has partnered with Bilyonaryo Manuel Pangilinan-led Meralco Powergen Corp. to build and operate a 700 megawatt coal fired power plant in Calaca, Batangas.

The project, which will be undertaken by St. Raphael Power Generation Corp., entails an investment of around $500 million to $525 million.

An Environmental Compliance Certificate dated Sept. 17, 2015 has been issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the said project.

Semirara operates two units of 300 MW coal-fired power plants in Calaca, Batangas, which it acquired from the government in 2009. It remains committed to expand its generating capacity to deliver additional power to the Luzon and Visayas markets.
