3G Gokongwei to step into family empire: Enter the millennial taipans
The Gokongwei business empire with interests in retail, food and beverage, real estate, aviation, financial services and magazine publishing, is navigating its way through a leadership succession from second to third generation family.
In preparation for the leadership transition, Justin Pe, the eldest son of Robina Gokongwei and top-notch corporate lawyer Perry Pe, will likely be the first one to join the family-owned business founded by patriarch John Gokongwei in 1957, according to Forbes Asia.
Justin is a senior studying chemistry at New York University. He attended high school in Xavier School in San Juan, Greenhills where he graduated with flying colours.
“He knows he’ll be here. He wants to be a food chemist,” said Robina, the eldest of John Gokongwei’s six children.
“He wants to create more snack flavours,” she added.
JG Summit’s food manufacturing arm Universal Robina Corp., is the country’s largest snack food maker under the Jack n’ Jill brand.
The move is part of a long-term succession plan implemented by the Gokongwei family to maintain family ownership and management,
