Billionaire LinkedIn Cofounder Reid Hoffman Donates $20 Million To Chan Zuckerberg Biohub
Billionaire LinkedIn cofounder Reid Hoffman and his wife Michelle Yee announced a $20 million pledge to a Chan Zuckerberg Initiative project on Thursday. The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub is a new laboratory in San Francisco, which will allow researchers from Stanford University, UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco to work together to cure diseases.
“With its atmosphere of collaboration and bold experimentation, its emphasis on software-based tools and other high-tech resources, and deploying entrepreneurial scientists, Biohub may precisely help cure disease the way that Silicon Valley has helped deploy software companies,” Hoffman said in a post on LinkedIn.
Hoffman, who has a net worth FORBES estimates at $3.7 billion, will be joining Biohub’s board. The laboratory is one part of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s plan to cure all disease by the end of the century, which Zuckerberg announced in September. At the time, Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan pledged to spend $3 billion over the next 10 years to fight disease.
