J.K. Rowling is reportedly a billionaire again
J.K. Rowling has reclaimed her position in the billionaires’ club after losing her place on Forbes’ list of the World’s Billionaires in 2012, according to a report by James B. Stewart in the New York Times.
Stewart estimated Rowling’s current fortune by investigating the author’s sources of income and “by interviewing a range of publishing and entertainment executives and agents,” some of which had negotiated with Rowling’s representatives.
The author fell off the list four years ago due to Britain’s high taxes and her charitable donations of around $160 million (£128 million), Forbes wrote in 2012. But analysts seemingly failed to foresee the sheer longevity of the Harry Potter brand. Stewart argues that the success of Rowling’s new movie “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” combined with a sold-out stage show and countless other revenue streams puts Rowling’s earnings at roughly $1.2 billion, after tax.
