Alfred Ty, Kevin Tan: Young tycoons ready to take over?
The sons of taipans George SK Ty and Andrew Tan did not pass up the chance to meet President Duterte, one of the world’s most powerful people according to Forbes magazine.
Alfred V. Ty, co vice-chairman at GT Capital, the Ty family’s listed holding company, and Kevin Tan (Megaworld first vice president and head of commercial division) joined Duterte and other heads of some of the country’s biggest corporations in a meeting held at Malacanang Tuesday night.
The 47-year old Ty heads the group’s real estate business under Federal Land. Among Federal Land’s notable projects include the 47-storey GT Tower in the Makati central business district, the 66-storey Metrobank Center, the premier Grand Hyatt Hotel and Residences, and the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel in Cebu City.
Alfred is also vice-chair of Toyota Motor Philippines Corp., and chair of Lexus Manila Inc. He is married to taipan Lucio Tan’s daughter Cherry.
Kevin, on the other hand, led Megaworld’s commercial business since 2001,blazing trails in the retail business. He handles the leasing, marketing, and operations of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls such as Mckinley Hill, Burgos Circle at Forbestown Center and Uptown in Fort Bonifacio, Newport Mall at Resorts World Manila, Lucky Chinatown in Binondo, and Eastwood City.
The three-hour meeting hosted by the President tackled several issues, including graft and corruption, contractualization, tax reforms and job generation.

Pangilinan, First Philippine Holdings Corp. chairman and CEO Federico Lopez, LT Group president Michael Tan, SM Prime Holdings executive chairman Hans Sy, ICTSI chairman Enrique Razon, Alsons Group chairman Tomas Alcantara, Ayala Corp. chair and CEO Jaime Zobel De Ayala, Aboitiz Equity Ventures president Erramon Aboitiz, Jollibee CEO Tony Tan Caktiong, DoubleDragon Properties CEO Edgar “Injap” Sia, and Magsaysay Corp. president Doris Magsaysay Ho.
