Gina Lopez to Ronnie Zamora: Tell your brother, he killed a mountain
Environment Secretary Gina Lopez accused Bilyonaryo Manny Zamora of “killing a mountain” in Hinatuan Island in Surigao del Norte.
During her confirmation hearing at the Senate Wednesday, Lopez immediately went on the offensive as she underscored Commission on Appointments Co-Chair and San Juan Rep. Ronnie Zamora’s personal and financial ties to a mining firm which was among the 23 mining firms she ordered closed last February.
Ronnie is the brother of Manny who controls Nickel Asia Corp. which has four mines in the country – Rio Tuba in Palawan, Taganito in Surigao del Norte, Cagdianao in Dinagat Island and Tagana-an in Hinatuan Island
Lopez said while Manny’s three mining projects – Rio Tuba, Taganito and Cagdianao – were “really, really good”, Hinatuan was not.
“Sir, you better tell your brother to behave because he has been mining for last 20 years and the mountain was really big and the mountain got small. That’s not legal at all, you’ve totaly killed the mountain. I could tell your brother, he totally killed the mountain,” said Lopez
