Teddy Boy calls Al Yuchengco ‘bravest’ freedom fighter
Ambassador to the United Nations Teddyboy Locsin Jr. took to social media to express his grief and tribute to the passing of insurance and banking taipan Alfonso Yuchengco.
Locsin, who was previously married to Vivian Yuchengo, recalled the bravery and generosity of the Yuchengco patriarch in the arduous fight for freedom and democracy during the Martial law. Vivian is a niece of the late tycoon.
“On the day Jesus rose from the dead Alfonso Yuchengco—bravest if not only brave businessman at martial law’s height—passed from this life. When Filipinos turned their backs on those who fought martial law’s coming, Alfonso Yuchengco gave help, sympathy and jobs to their kids,” Locsin said.
“Alfonso did more but only his business associate Ramon Diaz of the Light a Fire Movement can say what and how but he has too passed away. He wasn’t a teary eyed soppy bleeding heart liberal sorta guy but in a cold formal relentless way a true friend of freedom all the way.
Learn then that what should make a guy likable is not his likeableness but his commitment to the right things however stern. Goodbye Al,” Locsin said.
