PH seeks China funding for Manila-Bicol railway project
The Department of Transportation is seeking financial assistance from the Chinese government to fund the planned railway that will connect Manila to the Bicol region in central Philippines.
The $3 billion project will have three tracks including the 72-kilometer line from Tutuban in Manila to Los Baños in Laguna, a 581-kilometer long-haul line from Los Baños to Sorsogon, and one from the Port of Manila that will pass through the FTI complex in Taguig City.
Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade said they hope to complete the project within the term of President Duterte.
The project is expected to decongest Metro Manila and spur development in the peripheries of Metro Manila.
It will cut travel time between Manila to Calamba from over two hours to an hour.
