Globe, Malaysian firm partner up to uplift youth through sports

Globe Telecom Inc has teamed up with Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad to launch TM Sports Para sa Bayan 2017, a program specifically designed to give underprivileged youth a chance to improve their standards of living through sports.

The partnership will allow talented Filipino kids to get a chance to undergo the Astro Kem Bola Advanced Training Program in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and, potentially, the Overseas Training Camp in Barcelona, Spain by coaches from FC Barcelona Football Academy (FCBEscola) later this year.

“We are happy to take our sports outreach program beyond Malaysia to provide talented kids within the region an avenue to achieve their dreams,” said Iskandar Samad, CEO of Tribe, a subsidiary of Astro.

Ray Guinoo, Globe director for TM Portfolio and Brand Management, said the company wants to use the power of sports to instill the importance of having good values and create opportunities for higher learning especially for kids who may have no means to pursue their desired careers.

The program will revolve around football, basketball, and volleyball, which are three of the most popular sports in the Philippines.
