UCPB goes full-on EMV starting August

United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB) has deactivated all magnetic strip-based cards effective Aug. 1, forcing old clients to come forward to get their microchip-embedded cards as soon as possible.

Effective Aug. 2, the old cards cannot be used for transactions, with access only allowed over the counter. All must now claim their new EMV cards to regain access to their funds via automated teller machines.

This is well ahead of the June 2018 deadline of the central bank. Looks like this government-run bank is setting an example.
