Faeldon urges support for new Customs chief Lapeña: My relief is best for the country
Outgoing Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon has appealed to his colleagues at the Bureau of Customs and the public to support his replacement, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Isidro Lapeña.
Faeldon made the statement Tuesday (August 22) after Duterte named Lapeña as the new Customs chief.
“My relief from my post is the best for our country. I urge everyone to continue to support the reform agenda and the development programs of the President,” he said.
Faeldon also thanked those who supported him during his stint as Customs Commissioner.
Duterte earlier revealed that Faeldon asked to resign thrice due to the corruption at the BOC.
While the President has chosen a new Customs chief, he still stood by Faeldon’s integrity.
“Naisahan lang siya eh. Alam mo, ang rotten talaga diyan is the system, if I may say so. Not necessarily the person,” Duterte told reporters in an exclusive dinner Monday night (August 21).
He said he wants Faeldon to stay in government because he needs “men of his caliber” though he does not know yet where to appoint the former Marine captain.
