Fernando Zobel to join Ironman 70.3 race in Davao
Bilyonaryo Fernando Zobel is expected to lead hundreds of triathletes 70.3 Cobra Ironman Triathlon on March 25, 2018 in Davao City.
This is the first time that President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown will host the prestigious triathlon race which had been held in Cebu in the last six years.
The race, which is a middle ground between the standard and full-distance Ironman race, will start and end at the Azuela Cove which was a joint venture between Fernando’s Ayala Land and Alsons which owned the 25-hectare property which used to host its sprawling plywood factory.
Fernando’s participation was announced during the launching of the commercial-residential project graced by Duterte last Friday in Davao City.
The 57-year-old vice chairman, president and chief operating officer of the conglomerate Ayala Corp. is a fitness buff and a triathlon warrior.
Fernando suffered a crash on his bike Pico de Loro Triathlon event in Nasugbu, Batangas in March 2012. But this did not stop him from joning the 70.3 Ironman race in Cebu in August 2012.
