DOE chief hopeful moratorium in West Philippine Sea will be lifted soon

Department of Energy Alfonso Cusi expressed hope that the moratorium on drilling and exploration in the disputed West Philippine Sea will be lifted soon.

He said “confidence building” between the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and its Chinese counterpart are progressing smoothly.

“We develop the trust but trust must be supported with concrete actions. We have to get that so when the moratorium is lifted, no any untoward action can happen,” Cusi said.

Meanwhile, between the DFA and DOE, both agencies are working together so that we can resume work at the contested areas.

“We are looking for ways. By being pragmatic about it, we are looking for ways, solution, a way to move forward that is a win-win for all,” Cusi said.

The DOE will be the lead agency to give the signal to resume drilling and exploration works in the disputed waters.
