5-year drivers license now available
The Land Transportation Office has started issuing driver’s license cards with a validity of five years.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante said those who would apply for a new driver’s license and renew old ones at National Capital Region-LTO offices would get their plastic cards on the same day.
Those who applied in October last year would be getting their plastic cards starting next week, Galvante said.
Galvante said the new plastic license cards, which are laser engraved and made of polycarbonate material, are not only durable but also have several security features.
The old cards which have three-year validity are made of PVC material, and were thermally printed and have limited security features, he added.
Professional or nonprofessional drivers who do not violate the law or traffic regulations during the five-year period can renew their driver’s license for a validity of 10 years,
