Consunji family mourns passing of beloved patriarch

The Consunji family is mourning the death of its patriarch David Consunji, founder of the DMCI Group of Companies.

The 95-year old tycoon, who is fondly called as DM, passed on around noontime yesterday (Sept.4) surrounded by close family and relatives, a statement issuer by the Consunjis said.

The construction magnate will be remembered for his dedication to quality work, finishing projects on time, taking risks, and living a modest lifestyle.

A loving and dedicated husband and father, DM built landmarks and redefined cityscapes for generations of Filipinos.

“He transformed the local construction industry by valuing not the quick profit but the satisfaction of doing one’s work well, honestly and proudly,” the statement said.

Consunji started as a small contractor who had no major connections in the construction industry but he persevered and built one of the country’s largest construction firms which has since diversified into power generation, real estate, mining, water distribution and infrastructure

His remains lie in state at the Capilla de San Francisco of Santuario de San Antonio Parish, McKinley Road, Forbes Park in Makati City, and may be viewed starting tonight (Sept.5) until Friday (Sept. 8).

Interment is scheduled on Saturday (Sept. 9) at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City after the 9:30 a.m. mass. at Santuario de San Antonio.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in DM’s honor to the UP Engineering Research and Development Foundation, Inc. and Orani Suhay Foundation, Inc.
