Power firms told to disclose customers’ deposit in monthly bills

The Department of Energy (DOE) has directed distribution utilities and electric cooperatives to include in their monthly bills how much deposits customers have paid.

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said he has written the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to direct all DUs and ECs to include in monthly bills how much the the end users’ deposit has earned since becoming their customer.

“It’s part of transparency, part of making people informed of what they have and their rights are. We have instructed the ERC to require all DUs and ECs to indicate how much deposit has been paid by consumers,”Cusi said.

“Every month that you get your bill, you should know that you have a deposit and how much interest you have earned,” Cusi said.
