SMC’s airport proposal acceptable if without gov’t guarantee- Tugade
San Miguel Corp’s proposed new airport in Bulacan is acceptable as long as there is no government guarantee, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said.
“We told them [SMC] we are ready to talk subject to existing laws and regulations but there should be no government guarantee or subsidy,” Tugade said.
Tugade also saidthere should be no provision in the contract that the operations of the airlines would be transferred to the proposed new international gateway.
“If that is okay with them, we are ready to talk,” he said.
Tugade said SMC’s proposal shall be subject to a Swiss challenge.
The proposed airport, which covers 2,000 hectares of land in Bulacan, will have at least four runways.
