Ramos family plans to double size of National Bookstore

Despite the surge in popularity of e-books, the family of National Bookstore founder Socorro Ramos is expanding the local book chain’s footprint with the goal of opening 500 stores in the medium term.

In an interview with ANC’s Cathy Yang, NBS managing director Xandra Ramos-Padilla said they were looking to end the year with a total of 240 stores as they continue to fortify their presence.

By 2020, the company is seen to grow its network to 330. Its goal is to open 20 branches annually.

Ramos-Padilla said NBS is banking on Filipinos’ penchant for shopping or going to the malls.

“Filipinos like to shop. They go to the mall anyway so they might as well shop at National Bookstore,” she said.

NBS is beefing up its online presence to ensure customers can check inventories and stocks online to provide an integrated shopping experience to consumers.

In the wake of online competition is definitely challenging for them. They have to do more than sell books to stay relevant.
