TransCo seeks Congress approval to enter telco sector

The National Transmission Corp. (TransCo) plans wants to diversify in the telecommunications business using the power grid’s existing facilities.

TransCo president Melvin Matibag said they were set to ask Congress to amend the government-owned firm’s charter.

He said this plan was already approved in principle by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi and garnered support from some lawmakers.

TransCo’s diversification will help the government with its national broadband plan.
