Vestas bags wind turbine supply contracts in PH

Vestas Wind System, a Danish manufacturer of wind turbines worldwide, has secured contracts to supply wind turbines to about 1,000 megawatts (MW) of wind farms in the Philippines.

“We are working on dozens of projects here. We’re looking at wind resource, how to connect to the grid, land in preparation for future development” said Clive Turton, president of Vestas Asia Pacific.

The commencement of these projects, however, is dependent on when the government will issue clearer policies on the development of wind power in the Philippines.

Turton earlier said the Philippines had great opportunity to exploit wind resources and become a leader in wind development in the ASEAN region.

The Philippines has developed around 400 megawatts of wind power plants, representing only two percent of the country’s total capacity.
