Customs arrest Chinese men carrying ATM skimming device at NAIA
Authorities stopped these suspected fraudsters from their dirty deeds.
Two Chinese passengers flying from Guangzhou were arrested by the Bureau of Customs at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after they were caught smuggling in skimming devices for automated teller machines (ATM).
In a statement, the bureau said Gong Yongjie and Wang Ji are now under custody after 187 one-time password cards and 153 used debit and sim cards were seen inside their luggage.
Customs officials said these cards are used to clone ATM data which are used to hack into a person’s bank account, which will then transfer available funds to another account.
“The apprehending examiner recommended the issuance of warrant of seizure and detention against the goods to the district collector of NAIA while charges were filed against Gong and Ji at Pasay City Fiscal’s Office,” Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña said in the statement.
