Did you know? AMLC, PDEA are allies vs drug trafficking
The Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) is not an enemy of Malacañang on this issue.
There have been brewing tensions between the AMLC and President Rodrigo Duterte amid all the allegations on secret bank accounts and illegal wealth, but the highly-secretive financial regulator is actually a staunch ally in the war on illegal drugs.
In a statement posted on the AMLC’s website, the agency saaid it ha held three workshops with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) over the past year, which has provided stronger coordination and information exchange between the offices.
AMLC and PDEA even branded themselves as the “two leading agencies that are at the forefront of the fight against illegal drugs.”
“The AMLC Secretariat and the PDEA held the series of workshops to harmonize the efforts of the two agencies in handling pending cases referred by each other and apply the lessons learned in future cases. Financial investigators, drug enforcement investigators and intelligence officers actively participated in the workshop to provide first-hand information on the legal and operational aspects of the coordination,” the statement read.
Looks like a fist bump is in order!
