MRT3 maintenance provider likely to get the axe

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is pushing for the termination of its contract with Busan Universal Rail Inc., the maintenance service provider of Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3.

During a hearing led by the House committee on good government and public accountability, DoTr undersecretary for legal affairs and procurement Reiner Paul Yebra said his office has already recommended the termination of the contract with BURI.

DOTr insisted that the maintenance contract with BURI was “questionable and void ab initio.”

Apart from terminating the services of BURI, the DoTR is also considering blacklisting the Korean firm from entering into any contract with the government.

The DoTR is also mulling the filing of a lawsuit against those involved in the MRT-3 maintenance deal.
