Oh snub! This could be the reason why Duterte is mad at Lucio Tan
As far as grudges go, there’s no doubt that President Rodrigo Duterte has a long memory.
Duterte’s dislike for taipan Lucio Tan became apparent recently when he threatened to shut down Terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport used exclusively by Philippine Airlines (PAL) if the Chinoy bilyonaryo does not pay the outstanding navigational charges it owes the government.
Duterte’s grudge against Tan may be rooted in an unpleasant experience he had with him some years back.
During a dinner with select opinion writers this week, Philippine Star columnist Boo Chanco recalled Duterte as saying that “he remembers how Lucio Tan turned his back on him and walked away some years ago as they were about to be introduced.”
It’s clear that Duterte hasn’t forgotten the incident.
Duterte previously mentioned about turning down Tan’s offer to contribute to his campaign for the 2016 elections.
During the dinner with columnists, the President also said he refused to meet Tan and fellow Chinoy bilyonaryo Andrew Tan when they flew to Davao City on election day.
Lesson learned: Be careful about who you snub, because he might just become the President of the Philippines one day.
