38 Customs officials get a taste of Lapeña’s wrath in reshuffle

These employees got a taste of the one-strike policy of their new chief.

Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña showed no mercy as he sacked eight district collectors and 30 section chiefs after discovering that they have not moved to stop corruption in their respective areas.

Removed from their posts were Elvira Cruz of the Port of Cebu; Romeo Rosales of the Port of San Fernando; Julius Premediles of the Port of Limay; Jose Naig of the Port of Iloilo; Carmelita Talusan of the Port of Subic; Divina Garrido of the Port of Legazpi; Halleck Valdez of the Port of Zamboanga; and Tomas Alcid of the Port of Aparri.

Lapeña signed the order on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

On the other hand, section chiefs at the Formal Entry Divisions of the Port of Manila (POM) and Manila International Container Port (MICP) were also plucked out and reassigned to provincial districts, as part of Lapeña’s bureau-wide cleansing.

Lapeña said he will not think twice in removing Customs employees once found engaging in anomalous practices, given President Rodrigo Duterte’s marching order to stop corruption in the agency.
