Joe Devance knows Ginebra v Meralco = RSA v MVP: We hate each other
Ginebra point forward Fil-Am Joe Devance is aware of the enmity between basketball teams of San Miguel big boss Ramon S. Ang and Salim-Metro Pacific executive Manuel V. Pangilinan merely mirrors the bad blood between the two bilyonaryos off the court.
After slaying MVP’s TNT Katropa team in the PBA semi-finals last Sunday, Devance said Ginebra could not wait to get on the court for Game 1 of its seven-game finals on Friday, October 13, with another MVP team, Meralco Bolts.
“You know, I don’t want to say we hate each other, but we hate each other,” Devance told reporters.
“I mean, MVP, Mr. Ang, I mean it’s just how it is,” said Devance.
This is a rematch of last year’s Governor Cup Finals won by Ginebra on a last-second three-point shot by its Justin Brownlee.
Losing TNT coach Nash Racela summed up the rivalry by saying: “If you want to win a championship, we really have to get past a San Miguel team.” Aside from Ginebra, RSA also owns San Miguel Beermen and Star Hotshots.
RSA and MVP have faced off in numerous takeover battles from Meralco to Philex to North Harbor to biddings for airports, trains and toll roads.
