Lapeña brings in PDEA execs for Customs cleanup
His dream team is now at the Bureau of Customs for an intense housekeeping session.
Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña did good on his promise to clean up the bureau by bringing in his trusted men and women. Some of his staff at the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) have already transferred to the bureau within months after he was reassigned by President Rodrigo Duterte there, the agency announced.
Melvin Estoque from PDEA Regional Office VII is now the chief of the Account Management Office, which accredits importers. Meanwhile, Director Jeoffrey Tacio from PDEA Regional Office I is now working for the Import Assessment Service, while PDEA Regional Office IV-B Director lawyer Jacquelyn De Guzman handles the Administration Office.
Lapeña has said that he will introduce landmark reforms at the Bureau of Customs to put an end to the “tara” culture that breeds corruption there. He recently sacked 38 officials who were found engaging in dirty work.
