PLDT invests in new undersea cable to 3 continents
PLDT Inc. has invested an initial P500 million in a new international submarine cable that will link the Philippines to three continents.
In a statement, PLDT said its investment in Asia-Africa-Europe 1 Submarine Cable System (AAE-1) would further reinforce the resiliency of its overseas links and enhance the quality of its data and internet connections.
“It will further accelerate PLDT’s digital pivot and expansion, allowing it to serve more customers not only in the country but in the continents of Asia, Africa, and Europe, as well,” said Kat Luna-Abelarde., PLDT first vice president and head of international and carrrier business and CEO of PLDT Global Corp.
The AAE-1 cable system, in tandem with the other international cable systems that land in the Philippines, will connect the country to 19 international destinations, namely, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, India, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Yemen, Egypt, Greece, Italy, and France.
With AAE-1, the PLDT Group’s total international capacity will hit over 4 Terabits per second (Tbps), way better than its rival.
