Customs daily collections hit P3B under Lapeña’s watch
Has change finally come in this bureau?
Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña may have been the change which this embattled bureau has long been looking for. Under the watch of the former head of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Customs saw its daily revenues breach P3 billion on Sept. 28 and 29, 2017.
Lapeña claimed that this was a first in the agency’s history, with collections hitting P3.32 billion and P3.19 billion for the two days.
For the entire September, collections totaled P39.5 billion, also the biggest monthly revenue ever posted by the bureau.
It seems the corruption crackdown has translated into legally-collected taxes for the government.
