Duterte says Congress, SC can’t stop him from cutting ties with EU: May Russia, China, Eastern Europe, Asean naman
President Rodrigo Duterte said he could decide to cut the Philippines ties with the European Union and not even Congress or the Supreme Court can do anything to to stop him.
In a PTV 4 interview Friday, Duterte said: “Sa Constitution, the President is the sole organ of foreign policy. Hindi ang Congress. Hindi ang Supreme Court. And they cannot force me pag sabihin ko, ‘Tapusin na natin ang relasyon natin’.”
Just hours after ordering all EU diplomats to leave the country in 24 hours on Thursday, Duterte followed up his threat by declaring his plan to cut all diplomatic and economic ties with the EU.
“Subukan natin at hamunin ko kayo. Kayong mga bayan, the countries who were represented in that Union, European Union. We can start by cutting diplomatic relations tomorrow. I dare you,” said Duterte.
“I will ask a listing for who these persons represented what country. And I will be glad to sign a letter of resignation of our diplomatic relationship. am prepared to lose all diplomatic relationships with all of the European countries now. Do not ever, ever come to the Philippines. You’re not allowed to enter here now. I will write that letter. Sirain natin,” he added.
Duterte, who wrongly assumed that a visiting group of European parliamentarians who criticized his brutal drug war as being sanctioned by the EU, said there was no point in continuing diplomatic ties with the EU if it would continue criticizing his policies in the global stage.
“Kung talagang kayo matino na bayan bakit kayo makipag-deal sa akin? Tapusin na natin lahat,” he said.
Duterte said he was also not afraid of cutting economic trade with EU.
“Huwag na kami mag-import. As long as I have China, Russia at ang Eastern Europe. Bakit kayo lang ba ang marunong kumain? At ang ASEAN countries, we’ll always stick together,” said Duterte.
