Smart urges Sun subscribers to level up to LTE SIM

Smart Communications Inc. has offered to upgrade the subscriber identification module (SIM) of its Sun mobile customers to long-term evolution at no extra cost to allow them to enjoy faster mobile internet connection.

“We encourage our Sun customers to upgrade their SIMs to LTE-ready SIMs for free in our Sun shops, as well as upgrade to LTE devices so they can fully tap the improved LTE network that we are putting in place,” said Alex O. Caeg, head of Consumer Business for Customer Development at Smart.

Smart has been aggressively rolling out its LTE network nationwide to improve the overall quality of service available to millions of Smart, TNT and Sun subscribers.

This comprehensive network modernization and expansion program is at the core of the PLDT group’s digital pivot. Smart’s network expansion accounted for a big chunk of PLDT’s P42.8 billion capital spending last year.

Initial internal tests showed that Sun LTE speeds have improved, with median download speeds in Northern NCR hitting 11.5 Mbps.
