Meralco 9-month sales volume up 4.4%

Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) posted a 4.4 percent uptick in energy sales volume in the nine months ending Sept. 30 as sales picked up in the third quarter, its president Oscar Reyes said.

In the third quarter, sales volume grew by six to seven percent on higher demand across residential, commercial and industrial sectors, Reyes said.

Despite the strong third quarter performance, Meralco sees its full-year sales growing a little higher than 4.5 percent amid the expected softer fourth quarter numbers.

Meralco was originally eyeing a five percent growth in sales volume by the end of the year.

Last year, Meralco breached the 40,000 gigawatt-hour (gwh) level in consolidated sales volume as energy sales went up 8.1 percent due to the May elections and warm weather.
