A Brown ventures into renewable energy

A Brown Co. Inc. is developing around 120 megawatts of hydropower projects, which are in different stages of development, its president and CEO Roel Castro said.

Those in development are equivalent to 10 projects, he said.

Castro said the projects are in partnership with the Rebisco group, the same partner of Palm Concepcion Power Corp. for its investment in a coal plant and Peakpower Energy Inc. for the diesel plants.

In investing in the renewable energy space, Castro said the focus would be on hydropower so it can supply baseload power or 24/7.

“We are looking more at hydro. For one, solar is already full as far as FIT (feed in tariff) is concerned. More importantly, given the profile of the grid, adding more intermittent power…would not be helping both commercially and technically,” Castro said.
