PhilWeb ready to get the ball rolling again
PhilWeb Corp. is getting back to life more than a year after the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. revoked its gaming privileges.
In a stock exchange filing, PhilWeb said it received today a certificate of accreditation from Pagcor as an electronic gaming system (EGS) service provider.
The accreditation allows PhilWeb to offer software and other services to operators of Pagcor- licensed gaming sites for electronic games.
PhilWeb’s license expired in August last year. The firm’s former owner, Roberto V. Ongpin had to unload his stake in PhilWeb to save it from going under after President Duterte turned his ire on the tycoon.
The former trade trade minister sold his shares to businessman Gregorio “Greggy” Araneta, stepson of deposed president Marcos.
Prior to the revocation of its license, PhilWeb provided electronic gambling machines for cafes in about 300 sites.
PhilWeb has invested over P100 million for new servers and new gaming sites in preparation for the resumption of its gaming operations.
