Meralco eyes 100k prepaid customers by yearend

Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) targets to end the year with 100,000 customers under its prepaid service after hitting the 70,000-mark by the end of September.

“We’re pushing very hard in prepaid electricity. Hopefully, we’ll reach the 100,000 mark by the end of the year,” Meralco senior vice president Alfredo Panlilio said.

As of end-September, Meralco had 76,763 prepaid customers under its Kuryente Load program.

During the period, the power distributor also recorded an increase in average per capita monthly consumption of prepaid metering accounts to 132 kilowatt-hours (kwh), compared to 113 kwh in December last year.
