DPWH savings to fund Marawi rehab plan
The agency did not spend P14.5 billion over the last two years, which is now headed for a greater cause.
Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno said Malacañang has approved an additional P14.5 billion for the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund, which will be used for the rehabilitation of Marawi City after a five-month standoff between government troops and Maute terrorists.
The funds are sourced from the Department of Public Works and Highways between 2016-2017, which reached P10.3 Billion P4.2 Billion.
While slow or underspending is an issue for Diokno, this one appears forgivable as the money could now be easily tapped for recovery and rebuilding.
