Customs warns vs fake solicitation letters using Lapeña’s name

The Bureau of Customs isn’t a charity work agency.

Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña has warned the public particularly importers not to fall for calls using his name to ask for donations of any sort.

This came after his office received tips that a certain Atty. Vasquez has been ringing up brokers and importers to ask for solicitations for charity projects being piloted by Lapeña’s office.

“I never authorized or ordered anyone from my office to solicit money on my behalf. I am also not involved in any fundraising activity as reportedly claimed by Vasquez,” Lapeña said in a statement.

The reports say Vasquez has been offering raffle tickets worth P15,000 as “church donation,” apart from a fundraising activity for a supposed charity project in Zambales via the mobile numbers 09568700861 and 09562181895.
