‘Due process’ to prevail as DOF searches for the next Mighty
There’s nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide.
The Department of Finance is out looking for the next big fish who’s been cheating the government of taxes, but Secretary Carlos Dominguez III assured that they won’t go trigger-happy just to raise more revenues.
“Our target are the guys who don’t pay their taxes, whether they’re a corporation or affluent individuals,” Dominguez said, while clarifying that due process will be “strictly observed” in this search.
“Of course the ones where the yields are higher… First of all, we have to have good evidence that they are cheating on the tax. It’s not just because you’re rich, we’ll go after you. That’s not fair also.”
As much as they want a windfall that could match Mighty Corp.’s P25-billion settlement for tax evasion, proper protocol will be followed via forensic investigation, forensic accounting, and benchmarking market share and tax payments.
Who will they catch next? Stay tuned.
