NEDA to rebuild Marawi as Mindanao’s study hub
The city ruined by war will be rebuilt as a place for scholars.
The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) has tagged Marawi City as one of many sub-regional centers in the country which will be developed as new centers of economic activity.
Despite its current state, NEDA Undersecretary for Regional Development Adoracion Navarro said the government plans to revive Marawi City and use it as an academic hub in Mindanao.
“The mention of Marawi may have evoked in you images of the destruction there due to conflict. We will bring back Marawi to its former glory as a higher education hub,” Navarro said, adding that the NEDA will be part of the Bangon Marawi Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Recovery Program.
Marawi served as a five-month battlefield between soldiers and Maute rebels. Now, it will be a site for development of the South.
