“Bayan o sarili?”

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has revealed the design of new P10 commemorative coins to honor General Antonio Luna, in time for his 150th birth anniversary.

The limited edition coins will be released for general circulation, and will be made available to banks starting November.

Luna is a known patriot, soldier and journalist during the late 1800s as he wrote the La Solidaridad, a propaganda outlet during the Spanish occupation of the Philippines. He also stood as Chief of War Operations during the Philippine-American War, using his skills for military tactics to get ahead.

His life has been the subject of the popular historical film Heneral Luna back in 2015.

The two-toned coins will carry is face and name, with the words “Dangal (honor),” “Tapang (bravery),” “Dignidad (dignity),” and “Bayani ng Digmaan Laban sa Estados Unidos (A hero during the war against the United States).”
