SR Metals gets top awards for responsible mining
SR Metals Inc., a nickel mining company located in Agusan del Norte, bagged the prestigious Presidential Mineral Industry and Environmental Award (PMIEA) for surface mining category for four straight years.
The PMIEA gives the award every year to outstanding mining companies for their dedication to occupational safety and health, environmental management and social responsibilities.
Miguel Alberto Gutierrez, president and CEO of SR Metals, recalled the industry-wide challenges they faced in the previous years, which he referred to as inspiration for them to pursue their moral and environmental obligations harder.
“SR Metals’ greatest pride lies on the acceptance of the local communities and the stakeholders, as we hold the “social license” they entrusted to us deep in our hearts.
We make sure that the SDMP funds intended for the community goes directly to the people. We hope to institutionalize inclusive growth as part of our corporate tenets and tried our best to make sure that our success reached our stakeholders and employees.”
SR Metals has a total number of 371 hectares of area rehabilitated and 287,000 of trees planted, through a strict implementation of progressive rehabilitation.
The company also won second place in the mining forestry category and runner-up in the safest mine category.
SR Metals has also been acknowledged as a Presidential Awardee for three consecutive years.
“We intend to carry the Filipino brand of responsible mining internationally. We envision that a Filipino mining company will be known in other parts of the world for its concrete and utmost dedication for people and the environment,” Gutierrez said.
SR Metals is eyeing some parts of Asia as its exploration, earth moving and mining destination.
It has rehabilitated an abandoned open pit mine in Camarines Norte, turning it into the newest tourist attraction in the province.
