Globe eyes 20M Gcash users by 2022
Globe Telecom Inc. aims to quadruple the number of GCash users in five to seven years as it aggressively deploys its pay and scan technology in retail stores.
Ernest Cu, president and chief executive of Globe, said the company’s goal is to hit 20 million GCash users by 2022 to 2024.
“In China, it took five to seven years before things did happen. We’re not even looking at revenues at the moment. We’re looking at building the active user base. We’re looking at making the experience more convenient, more relevant to people,” Cu said.
” We’re looking at increasing merchant base that accepts GCash and from there, we’ll see what happens to revenue,” he added.
Globe earlier partnered with SM Malls, Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. and with Davao’s homegrown retail chain, New City Commercial Corporation (NCCC) to accept payment through the use of QR scanning via smartphones.
The GCash scan-to-pay technology is also available in Mercato Central in Bonifacio Global City, Ayala Malls, particularly Glorietta, Max’s Group of restaurants, apparel brand Bench, and international brands special retailer Stores Specialists Inc.
Through Gcash, Globe hopes to change the purchasing payment landscape in the Philippines.
