LRT to get 120 new light rail vehicles
The Department of Transportation is acquiring 120 new light rail vehicles from Japan’s Mitsubishi Corp. for the LRT Line 1 extension from Baclaran to Bacoor in Cavite.
DOTr assistant secretary for railways Timothy John Batan said the contract price for the procurement of new trains was 20 percent lower than the bid price of the second best bidder.
Each train set, which is expected to be energy-efficient and low maintenance cost, would have a minimum of 1,388 passengers.
The first four trains are targeted for delivery on Aug. 31, 2020 while the next 40 LRVs are expected to delivered on Dec. 31 of the same year.
Mitsubishi Corp.- Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarrile, the project sub-contractor based in Spain, is expected to complete the delivery of 120 LRVs on Dec. 31, 2021.
The agency earlier budgeted P30 billion for the purchase of new trains.
