Gov’t plans mini ecozone in Marawi to offer jobs to residents
E-commerce will play a huge role in this plan.
The Department of Finance (DOF) is targeting to put up a community-based economic zone in Marawi City as part of plans to resuscitate the city after five months of war.
DOF Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said he is considering this as part of the government’s strategic rehabilitation plan for the city, which has been discussed with officials of Japanese firm Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp.
Japan is among the donors for Marawi’s revival.
To make it convenient, any products that the residents can whip up will be sold and shipped through online marketplaces so there are lesser costs and wider markets for them to reach.
“Besides providing residents with basic necessities such as water and electricity, the government would also provide them with access to the Internet so that the small, community-based industries set up within the ecozone could take part in e-commerce tie ups through online selling platforms such as lazada.com.ph and alibaba.com,” the DOF said in a statement.
