No more free soda refills at Lucio Co’s S&R

A newly-implemented tax on sugar sweetened beverages is already causing an uproar from the consuming public.

Consumers took to Facebook and Twitter to complain about S&R Membership Shopping ‘s withdrawal of their bottomless drinks offers.

In a notice to their customers, the upscale membership shopping warehouse club operator said: “Effective Jan. 1, 2018, we will discontinue serving unlimited soda due to the tax reform law.”

“ We appreciate your patronage and look forward to continuing to provide you with the same great value, quality and freshness that you have come to enjoy,” it added.

The passage of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion bill in December 2017 saw the imposition of a P6 liter tax on drinks containing caloric or non-caloric sweetener and P12 per liter tax on drinks containing high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) or combination

The rates were revised from the original proposal of P10 per liter.
