BDO looking into dubious withdrawals reported by depositors
Fraudsters are finding ways to get their hands on bank deposits.
Listed BDO Unibank, Inc. said they are currently investigating reports from clients who have fallen victim to suspicious transactions involving their bank accounts, which involved unauthorized withdrawals and even purchases.
In a statement, the bank owned by bilyonaryo Henry Sy came clean to say that they have seen an “increased number of clients” reporting such incidents, as they parse through millions of transactions which they process daily.
“We are currently running a thorough investigation process that involves tracing individual transactions, checking any irregularities and identifying signals of fraud from millions of valid transactions everyday. This challenging task is done to ensure that all cases are addressed accordingly, and that a resolution is served for all valid cases,” BDO said.
It clarified that the entire banking industry has seen an “extraordinary rise” in fraud attacks during the last three months of 2017, saying that this was a trend observed globally as well.
In the meantime, the bank asked its depositors to keep account data private and to be discerning in sharing their personal information to anyone, as these can be used to hack into their bank accounts.
Affected clients are also asked to file formal reports and complaints with BDO.
