Central bank probing suspicious withdrawals from BDO

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is already looking into reports of unauthorized transactions experienced by depositors.

In a report from GMA News Online, BSP Deputy Governor Chuchi Fonacier said BDO Unibank, Inc. has reached out to inform the regulator about increasing cases of suspected fraud affecting retail clients.

“BDO already forwarded the matter to BSP. We’re already looking into the matter,” the report quoted Fonacier.

The country’s biggest bank released a statement on Tuesday, Jan. 9 saying that an “increased number of clients” have reported unauthorized withdrawals and purchases reflected in their accounts, which could have been the result of skimming or similar fraudulent activities done by digital thieves.

The BSP regulates the banking industry and steps in to ensure consumer protection.
