Cementing a green future: Henry ‘Big Boy’ Sy launches ‘Big Boss Cement’
Henry “Big Boy” Sy, Jr. has entered the cement manufacturing business to take advantage of the increasing demand for sustainable products and the expected surge in both public and private infrastructure spending.
Formally launched Thursday, all-Filipino owned Big Boss Cement Inc. has patented a revolutionary cement manufacturing process that delivers advanced, optimum quality and environment-friendly cement.
Green cement makes structures resistant to moisture and offers protection against corrosion.
Big Boss aims to service about three percent of total Philippine demand.
Its first plant, located in Porac, Pampanga, will produce 1.5 million bags of cement per month.
Green cement production accounts for 3.5 percent of global cement, but is projected to increase to over 13 percent of the market by 2020.
Big Boss president Gilbert Cruz believes the company can meet the huge demand for cement.
Sy, who chairs Big Boss, is also engaged in power distribution through the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines.
He sits as chairman of SM Prime Holdings, which oversees the family’s mall and property businesses.
