Overseas Filipino Bank opens January 18

Filipinos toiling abroad can look forward to their own bank as the Overseas Filipino bank is set to open on January 18, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press briefing Monday.

President Duterte has promised to put up a bank that would serve the financial needs of Filipinos working overseas. He signed EO 44 last September that allowed state-owned Land Bank of the Philippines to acquire Postal Savings Bank and be converted into an Overseas Filipino Bank.

“We recognize the contribution of our overseas Filipinos to our economic growth that we are now enjoying. And related to this, we acknowledge their financial needs. We therefore aim to provide financial and remittance services tailored to their needs,” Roque told reporters in Malacanang. (Jun Ebias)
